Full-stack software engineer & technology lead, Bristol, UK.
Hello, my name is Jed. I'm a full-stack software engineer and technology lead who designs, builds and runs the systems a business depends on. At Vanaways I brought software development in-house: I architect and write TypeScript and Node.js applications, from Next.js and React front ends to Express APIs on PostgreSQL, and I run the container platform they deploy to, with 60+ apps across 11 servers, CI/CD, automated testing and monitoring. I work AI-first, pairing with coding agents under code review, tests and clear specifications so that speed never costs quality. Outside work I'm a Cub leader at 1st Olveston and a trustee of Avon Scouts.
I lead in-house software development, architecting and building the TypeScript and Node.js systems our sales, finance and operations teams rely on. Working hands-on with a small development team and AI coding agents, I take products from requirements through design, build, review, deployment and maintenance across a GitHub organisation of 40+ repositories. I've replaced third-party and legacy tools with our own software, integrated it with external APIs, and made pull-request review, automated tests, error monitoring and documentation the standard.
I led the IT function and the development team, and built the platform our software runs on: self-hosted Docker deployments on Coolify, GitHub Actions pipelines, Entra ID single sign-on and Power BI reporting. I delivered the RingCentral and Dotdigital rollouts and integrated them with our own systems, migrated the company from Windows Server 2019 to Microsoft 365, and owned cybersecurity, budgets and vendor management.
I provided 1st/2nd line support across endpoints, servers, networks and SaaS, and began automating: scripting routine tasks, software deployment and patching, and writing the user guides and knowledge articles that cut resolution times.
I ran campsite operations, often solo, and built Zendesk views and automations that resolved around 10 tickets a day.
In-store customer support and troubleshooting at Cribbs Causeway, consistently meeting service targets.
A suite of Next.js, React and Node.js applications on Supabase/PostgreSQL that runs the sales journey end to end. The quoting engine returns every funder's finance products side by side from live funder APIs, with strict TypeScript, zod-validated contracts and a Vitest suite guarding every figure; I rebuilt it from a legacy NestJS and Flutter system, fixing long-standing calculation bugs on the way. The finance application system adds Companies House and Google Places lookups, PDF export and Entra ID sign-in, and VanaSpec serves vehicle data from CAP HPI's SOAP API through an Express REST API monitored with Sentry.
I run our self-hosted platform of 60+ containerised apps across 11 Linux servers on Coolify. I designed and rolled out a dedicated build server that builds each image once, pushes it to GitHub Container Registry and performs rolling updates, taking build load off production. Around it sit Entra ID SSO for internal tools, server monitoring, automated database backups, and a Next.js IT dashboard that pulls GitHub, Jira and monitoring data from their APIs, with webhook-driven automation.
One Go binary that serves the same command shell over HTTPS, SSH and finger. The browser terminal, `ssh jedwilliams.co.uk` and `curl jedwilliams.co.uk` all run identical commands; the CV is a single struct rendered to ANSI, HTML, Markdown, JSON and PDF.
A two-year course covering programming, IT systems, data modelling, information storage and website development.
Distinction, Distinction, Merit — the highest grade in the cohort
Cub Leader at 1st Olveston Cubs and Trustee of Avon Scouts. I came up through Scouts myself and now help run weekly meetings, camps and activities for our Cubs. As a trustee I sit on the Avon board of trustees.
Scouting, obviously. Otherwise I love being on the water — I hold my Powerboat Level 2 certificate — plus wakeboarding and swimming.
